The basic winch design

The high speed winch was designed for testing military equipment and systems. It has a engine and a cable system that allows the 12500lb breaking strain synthetic rope to spool off one drum to a reverse pulley 1km away and back to the powered drum. The drive system can be reversed to move the cable from one drum to the other.  For this particular application a fully automated remote control system is under development to allow operation via a fibre optic link from a remote control.
The basic winch design lends itself to many other applications such as crash testing and industrial use. We have numerous "building blocks" which allow us to build special high quality winch in many different configurations and we can gear the cable speed and size to meet virtually any requirements.

The competition auto winches have hydraulic motor-driven units and an integrated balancing valve unit for controlling the load while it is descending, as well as a selector valve for opening the integrated motor brake.

Electric winches can be used to rescue other vehicles

Electric winches utilise an electric motor connected directly to your cars battery. The motor is heavily geared to provide a large amount of torque at a relatively slow speed.
An electric winch will have a large drum which either a steel or synthetic cable is wound. Winches feature a hand controller which allows you to operate the winch at a safe distance in case the winch rope breaks.
The heavy duty synthetic rope winch is attached via a shackle or hook to an anchor point. The winch is then operated by the hand controller to pull the vehicle free of the bog.
Winches can be used to rescue other vehicles by straight pulling the vehicle free, or used with a snatch block and anchor point to pull a stuck vehicle in a number of different ways.

If your anchor point is too close to spool out enough rope, double the line with a snatch block. Another trick to squeeze the most power out of your winch is to gas the stuck vehicle. A rolling load fuels the momentum of the pull and eases the strain on your winch. As your winch works harder, it generates more heat. In order to prevent overheating the motor, take breaks if you're pulling over a long distance and let the motor cool before starting again. Winching places a heavy load on your electrical system, so keep your engine running to prevent a complete drain. In some cases, a stock battery may not provide enough juice to power a maximum pull.
